In this format there is no need for taxing memorization by the actors. They read from scripts. In other communities our Cabaret Players approach more frequently is labeled “readers theater” as we, too, previously called ourselves. This helps the actors to relieve much of the stress for both the novice and the experienced. Here in Sun City Grand we also have raised “readers theater” to a new level ----- using props that work on a small stage in an intimate setting, the actors dressed for their various roles. We don't perform on the “big stage”, but borrowed a page from the cabaret cafes of a prior generation and another culture. Rather, you'll find us at the Cimarron Center. Tables for four with no more than 80 or so in the audience. Folks quietly sipping wine or another beverage, and enjoying the show.
Cabaret Players specializes strictly in comedy, light to somewhat farcical at times. Three or four acts or skits (each only 10 to 20 minutes in length), with a short intermission, describe our typical 90 minutes of entertainment normally produced three times a season ----- November, March, and May.
Do you sense a family gene tickling you, or a yearning for “someplace in the theater”, but are intimidated by all those “professionals” out there in Hollywood and on Broadway?!! Cabaret Players, right here in your own front yard, is a great place to answer them with only “$10.00 down” (annual club dues) and no more risk than just observing and learning if that is your desire.
The Cabaret Players generally meet at 9:00 AM on the last Friday of the month (September thru May)
at the Cimarron Center.
